Why does the oil start to burn?

The danger of the over heating of cooking grease and oil exists in every kitchen.

At the commercial/gastronomic field, for instance, the over heating can be caused by an awkward draining of the cooking oil. Faulty vessels or false use of them can heat the grease until the self-ignition point. Many destructive fires have started due to this reason.

As a fire extinguishing agent, water is not only unsuitable, but also dangerous for life!

It actuates the oil to explode creating an enormous flash.

The flame is really dangerous and could cause severe burns.

Until now, the control of fires caused by cooking grease and oil by using blankets, caps and dry powder, foam, water or CO₂, fire extinguishers were proved not only ineffective, but also dangerous.

Due to the pressure the fire extinguishers have, the flames are dispersed, which results in expansion of fire at other objects.

A "gun" shaped device is used to release the balls into the fire from a safety distance.
The ingeniously designed Safeball extinguishes the burning oil, quickly and safely, by creating a "wall" of foam between the burning oil and oxygen.

PHASE 1: COOLING

When Safeball is dropped into the burning oil, the wax wrapping melts, releasing the gel as a fire fighting agent. The water that is reserved inside this agent, withdraws the energy from the burning oil and freezes it.

Furthermore, the heat of the oil is reduced in such point that disables the possibility of self-ignition.

PHASE 2: FOAM MAKING

The high temperature coerces the chemical substances that are inside the fire extinguishing agent to turn into foam. Due to its low density, foam, reaches the surface, creating a wall between the burning oil and oxygen, which results in avoiding the occurring of self-ignition.

PHASE 3: CHEMICAL CONVERSION

The fire extinguishing agent converts the burning oil into non-burned soap – this is the beginning of saponification. If accidentally, water is dropped inside the frying-pan there will be no ignition, but only foaming.

These three phases make SafeBall a very powerful fire fighting agent.
